OUR WORK IN THE FIELDS
OUR PROJECTS
ALL OF OUR PROJECTS SHARE A COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING BLACK GIRLS AND WOMEN'S HEALTH AND WELL BEING.
At the heart of every project is a commitment to advancing the healthy development, protection, and thriving of Black girls. We examine how relationships, social contexts, cultural strengths, and structural conditions shape Black girls' and women’s experiences and developmental outcomes across the life course.
Whether studying family relationships, sexual development, adultification, identity formation, mental health, or community supports, our work seeks to identify the factors that protect, empower, and uplift Black girls while addressing the inequities and stereotypes that place them at risk.
-
Prioritizing the voices, lived experiences, identities, and perspectives of Black girls and women in all aspects of research, scholarship, and community engagement.
-
We value authentic collaboration with Black girls, families, schools, and communities to ensure research is culturally grounded, accessible, and impactful.
-
We work to protect Black girls and women from harm, including adultification, discrimination, violence, and exploitation, while advocating for environments that promote safety, dignity, and well-being. We recognize that Black girls' protection is contingent upon the health and well-being of their families, communities and systems.
-
We are committed to challenging systemic inequities and advancing social, racial, gender, and developmental justice that supports Black girls’ and women' s healthy development and opportunity.
-
We believe meaningful change happens through collaboration across disciplines, institutions, and communities to address the complex realities shaping Black girls’ development.
